Jay-Z Announces 2010 Tour Dates. Chicago Not On List.

Back in September we lined up with hundreds of Chicagoans outside the House of Blues for a chance to see Jay-Z's Samsung-hosted elusive free show. And like many of the same people we queued in line with that evening, we went home unable to even make it as far as the venue doors.

We thought the announcement of Jay-Z's 2010 Blueprint 3 second leg tour dates would more than make up for missing the free show, but amongst the list of every major city from DC to Dallas to LA, Chicago is not mentioned. We're both surprised and disappointed, but area Jay-Z fans aren't without all hope of a performance from the NYC-based hip-hop artist who plays a few hour drive away in Champaign next Thursday night. Now who wants to give us a ride?

Jay-Z with N.E.R.D., Wale and J. Cole, Thursday, November 12, at the Assembly Hall, Champaign, IL, 8 p.m., $36-$76 via Ticketmaster

Right now this is PURE SPECULATION on my part, (I have no connections or inside tips, this is, again, purely a hunch) but I'm going to throw it out there anyway...

After a strong set at All Points West last year, I wouldn't be surprised if the Lollapalooza people called him up and booked him right away, or at least told him to keep them in mind. I think you could look at APW as his emergence onto the US music festival scene, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lollapalooza won't be the only summer festival he plays. Maybe it's a little early to go booking headliners, but right now the tour is going through the end of March, which is a week or two before the Lolla lineup drops.

Just a thought, that's all.

You know what, that actually makes perfect sense. You may be on to something there.

ANDDDDDD with that we kick off the year's festival guessing game a bit earlier than usual ;)

That makes sense and if it pans out, that will be one hell of a show. When he played APW and Lolla was left with a last minute Yeah Yeah Yeah's headliner fill-in, I was definitely one of the mass lamenting, "it's not fair we should have got Jay-Z too".

Don't even get me started on YYY's over Jay-Z. Still bitter. Watch Jay's Glastonbury '08 set for proof the dude can kill live.
