City Clerk Asks Aldermen To Review Permit Parking
City Clerk Miguel del Valle called for a broad review of Chicago's expanding permit parking program on Thursday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The system, which offers residents in certain zones easy access to parking in their neighborhoods if their car bears a city sticker or permit, has become "frustratingly complicated and difficult to administer," the report said.
Although reviewing the program has been on the table for years, it needs to happen now since the once small program has expanded to more than 1,000 zones. He argued the City Council should be behind the review because "aldermen ultimately sign off on the permit zones within their wards."
However del Valle did not call for a complete overhaul of the program and questioned Ald. Thomas Tunney's (44th Ward) suggestion to have aldermen and their staffs distribute stickers and parking permits to their constituents.
